Right Function

The Right function on Excel let’s you extract a the last characters, or character in a text string based and it’s based on the number of characters you specify you want to extract.

This a a really handy function and I use it more often than I thought I actually would.

The syntax for this formula is

RIGHT(Text, Number_Of_Characters)

Text is the string you want to extract from and Number_Of_Characters is the number of letters you want to extract from the full string.

As always it’s way easier with an example or two.

As you can see in the example above I have requested that only the last three characters from the right have been extracted in cells B2 to B4

Let us know how you have used this function, I know i have used it for grabbing file extensions form one of my documents……what about you?
