The main part of the Excel window is mostly taken up by the worksheet, this is where you enter and edit your data. The worksheet is divided into columns and rows. Columns have lettered headers and rows are numbered.

Below the toolbar is the Formula Bar, this is the area you can use to enter and edit data and select various parts of the worksheet. On the horizontal scroll bar the arrows which allow you to move along the worksheet and tabs control that allow you to select different worksheets.
Let’s look at the Active Cells, this is the area or location on the sheet where editing takes place for example text or numbers being entered and deleted. If the active cell is the only cell on the worksheet that is selected then it has a black border to it and is identified in the Name Box by its grid reference example A1, or by a Name give to the location.
Subsequently if more than one cell is selected by holding down the mouse and selected numerous cells then all cells are highlighted except the active cell which is displayed as normal.
