Convert Positive Numbers To Negative Numbers Using Paste Special Trick



Hello Excellers, welcome back to another #Exceltips blog post in my 2021 series. I wanted to share this Excel tip with you as it really is a fast way of converting a list of positive Excel numbers into negative numbers. You may receive data from another source that contains positive numbers. They may need to be converted from positive to negative. t using the Paste Special feature in Excel.

I have a data set here of numbers, which are refunds, they therefore should be all negative numbers in this data extract.

Convert positive numbers to negative number in Excel

Follow these quick steps to convert your numbers

  • Type -1 in a nearby cell
  • Copy the -1 value
  • Select your range of numbers
  • Go to Paste Special | Values | Multiply | Ok

Once you hit Ok, your values will be multiplied by -1.

This  converts them to negative numbers – easy huh. Why not try it?.
