Change The Auto Save-Auto Recover File Location In Excel

If you use the file auto recover/ save option in Excel, which I suggest you do. (I learned the very very hard way years ago whilst doing some analysis for my Thesis, my file corrupted after a hefty session on analysis and my auto save was not enabled). Ouch!, Never repeated though I am glad to say.

So back to changing the system default location of Excel auto save file. Its really easy to change to a file location of your choosing.

  • Office Button
  • Excel Options
  • Save- Save Workbooks area
  • Auto recover file location- amend as required
  • Ok
This is the area you change the default location of your files. You can also use this area to specify the number of minutes in between saves of your file, the default is 10.That’s all there is to it. If Excel encounters a problem, then you can restore from the most recent version of the file saved. Excel actually stores a temporary file which is then deleted when Excel closed down normally without any issues..phew!
