Defer Data Updates In Your Excel Pivot Table. – Pivot Table Tip


Hello, Excellers. Today I want to show you a really quick Excel Pivot Table tip that might be very useful for you if you are updating or making changes to a large Pivot Table. You may already know that normally when a Pivot Table data field is added, removed, or moved to a different location the whole Pivot Table is recalculated. So, if you have a large dataset then it may take a little while to update the table. Did you know that you can edit and change your Pivot Table around without the data being recalculated?. Yes, that is correct, there is a solution. you can defer your pivot update.

The Defer Layout Update Box.

Just simply tick the Defer Layout Update box. It does exactly what it says. It will defer the update of the Pivot Table until YOU choose to update it.
Once you are ready to update the table you can hit the Update button. Be sure to remove the Defer Update Layout tick, as some of the features such as filters, grouping and sorting. Did you know about this cool feature?. That’s it, how to defer your pivot update.
