Sometimes it’s necessary to limit the number of character entries into cells, for example account codes or user names. You may want to limit an account code to 6 characters. This cuts down on time, mistakes and guides the Excel user to enter correct information.
With this data validation trick this type of restriction is easily managed. Here’s an example.
1. Select The range of cells you wish to restrict
2. Data- Validation- Settings- Text Length
3. Enter the validation settings for example Minimum of 5 maximum of 10
4. Ok
If the users enters character that do not fall within or match these criteria a warning box will pop up to prevent entry into the cells.
Give this a go, its very controlling!..ohhh.
