Conditional Color Scales For Your Excel Data- Easy Data Visualisation Technique

Here is a really quick and basic data visualization technique in Excel which will easily identify differences in your data range or values at a glance.

A great example of this in use is to take a range of average temperatures and apply some conditional formatting to them to identify the variances in the range of temperatures.

Let’s take the average monthly temperatures for one of my favorite places in the planet Death Valley in California USA.

  • Highlight the cells that you want to apply the conditional formatting to
  • Home Tab>Conditional Formatting>Color Scales
  • In this particular example I am using Red -Yellow-Green color scale

So your data is transformed……

In this chosen three color scale, the top values in this case the red, represents the top values in the data set, the yellow the middle and the green the bottom. This really gives the simple data in this sheet some pop don’t you think.???????

1. Sort Excel Data By Color

2. Quick Formatting With Painter In Excel

3. Change The Color Your Excel Cell Borders
