hi everyone my name is Barbara welcome
0:02
back to my YouTube channel and welcome
0:03
if it's your first time here I make
0:05
videos about xow today we're going back
0:08
to basics and looking at creating a
0:11
table in Excel It's Quickly done with
0:13
built-in formatting it's done for you
0:15
with the couple of clicks and by
0:16
arranging your data in a table your data
0:19
can be organized neatly and clearly
0:21
presented but not only does your data
0:24
look good when it's converted to a table
0:26
you can automatically get some access to
0:27
some very useful features such as a
0:29
automatic calculations and powerful
0:31
soring and filtering so let's get
0:34
started with an example so I've got a
0:36
simple data set here that most people
0:38
will be familiar with data for a table
0:41
is usually set up where there's some
0:43
column headings I've got some sales
0:45
people and I've got some sales in this
0:48
row running from January to June 24 so
0:51
let's convert this data to a table to
0:53
get it looking clear and well organized
0:55
your data you can select it manually or
0:59
if you put your your data in the data
1:01
set and hit control a Excel will suggest
1:06
the data for your table next navigate to
1:08
the Home tab and if we go along to the
1:12
Styles group you can see format is table
1:15
Excel will suggest some that are
1:17
pre-formatted for you and if you're new
1:18
to this then probably suggest that you
1:21
select one of the pre-formatted ones but
1:23
you there is the option to create your
1:25
own as well but let's just stick with
1:27
the basics today and let's select the
1:30
light green so straight away another T
1:33
another window pops up and it it asks
1:36
for confirmation of where your data for
1:38
your table is which is correct here and
1:41
if your data has column headers then
1:44
ensure that my table has column head as
1:49
ticked and hit okay if you untick my
1:53
table has column headers then Excel will
1:56
insert column headers for you you can
1:58
see here and name them for you for how
2:01
name them and in however many columns
2:03
you have that's not what we want because
2:06
our columns do have headers so then we
2:09
will format as table let's select the
2:14
green so this is just an introduction to
2:16
creating a table but let's look at some
2:18
of the cool stuff that you automatically
2:20
get by converting your data to a table
2:23
if you wanted to add in another column
2:25
say for July all you do is select the
2:27
column to the to the right of your last
2:29
column and and just start
2:35
typing and Excel will automatically
2:37
insert another column for
2:40
you just as if you if you wanted to add
2:44
another rule just start typing and again
2:47
Excel will insert another rule for you
2:50
automatically and all of the correct
2:52
formatting is applied
2:54
automatically so you might or might have
2:57
not noticed that when we select s a data
3:01
table there's a new tab that does come
3:03
up and it's called table design and once
3:06
you click out the table design goes once
3:09
you click in it's now available for you
3:12
to use so let's take a look at some of
3:14
the basics that we can do with the table
3:17
design so first let's go back to the
3:19
last number of styles there's a lot you
3:22
can choose from you can just hover over
3:24
and Excel will give you a little preview
3:25
of it I'll choose something a little
3:27
darker just for demonstration so let's
3:30
look at some of the options available in
3:33
in the table design we can click total
3:35
row and that will give us a total we can
3:38
also then just drag this along normally
3:41
and we now have totals for each of our
3:43
columns and interestingly you don't have
3:45
to have the same function for each of
3:47
these down box on any of these columns
3:50
you get a selection of functions
3:52
available so for this one June I could
3:55
select the average and for January I
3:59
could say
4:00
the count so I've got all records there
4:02
so you don't need to have the same
4:05
function in each of your columns you can
4:07
just go back to the table design and
4:09
untick the total row if you decide not
4:11
to use it so let's run through some of
4:14
the other table design features First
4:16
Column highlights the First Column last
4:18
column highlights the last column and
4:20
banded columns and if you select banded
4:22
columns then every other rowle is
4:25
highlighted if you want to remove the
4:27
table what you can do is select your
4:29
data that right click and then select
4:32
the table option and convert to range
4:35
and this will convert your data back to
4:38
a normal range you can see now the
4:41
formatting has stuck but it's not a data
4:44
table anymore I'm not getting the table
4:47
design tab come up so that was a really
4:50
quick introduction to excel tables how
4:52
they can help you organize your data and
4:54
it also unlocks a few a few cool
4:57
functions in Excel automatically where
4:59
you can add in extra columns and extra
5:03
rows just by typing in the data and
5:06
Excel will copy the formatting it also
5:09
unlocks some automatic functions in the
5:12
data table such as totals average counts
5:16
if you've got any questions leave them
5:17
in the comment box below I hope you
5:19
enjoyed the video and I'll see you next

time thanks for watching
